A Great Song for Running

"Son of man, look to the sky! Lift your spirit, set it free!"

Yes, it's a song from Disney's Tarzan! There's just something about this song that pumps energy into you as you run. And the lyrics are pretty inspiring since it is about a young boy's journey and hopes as he strives to become a man.

I mean, listen to it!

  • "It's you who'll climb the mountain, it's you who'll reach the peak!",
  • "Son of man, look to the sky! Lift your spirit, set it free! Someday, you'll walk tall with pride; son of man, a man in time you'll be!"

Come on, you can't tell me that that's not uplifting!

Anyway, without further ado, please enjoy the song!

The part about climbing the mountain and reaching the peak especially resonates with me while I'm running uphill, and reminds me of my life in general. I'm sure that you, friend, can also empathize and apply such a metaphor to your own life.

Anyway, I started running a few months ago in order to maintain my strength and maybe even set some new personal records. At first, running was incredibly challenging; Berkeley is a very hilly area, and running uphill can wipe out a total novice. But I kept at it day after day, and now I'm able to run about 2.5 miles in good pace even while running uphill. Whenever I run and this song comes on, I get so energized and speed up without even thinking about it and end up running at a fast pace even when I thought I could run no more. I hope that you'll enjoy this song as much as I do.
